2001 Awards
THE 15th ANNUAL ISADORA DUNCAN DANCE AWARD COMMITTEE ANNOUNCES THE NOMINEES AND WINNERS FOR THE 1999-2000 SEASON
San Francisco (April 23, 2001)----The Isadora Duncan Dance Awards Committee announced the "Izzie" awards nominees and winners for the 1999-2000 performance season (see photos). Awards were given in ten categories to Bay Area dancers, choreographers, their collaborators and composers, as well as to others who contribute to the advancement of the dance community. This is the 15th year that the Committee has recognized the excellence and diversity of Bay Area Dance.
The winners were announced at the "Izzie" awards ceremony, which took place Monday, April 23, 2001 at The Green Room, located at 401 Van Ness Ave, the War Memorial Building. The event, co-hosted by the San Francisco Performing Arts Library and Museum and funded in part by the Zellerbach Family Fund, started at 6 pm with a reception and exhibition of Dance in California: A Historical Retrospective.
The awards ceremony began at 7:30 pm. The event was free to the community.
The Isadora Dance Awards Committee seeks to honor and enhance the visibility of local dance artists, primarily through the acknowledgment of outstanding achievements within a twelve-month period of performances (September 1 through
August 31). It strives to celebrate the unique richness, diversity and excellence of Bay Area dance and
was formed as part of Dance Bay Area in 1984 with the first awards given in 1985. Since 1994, the Isadora Duncan Dance Awards Committee has functioned as a voluntary group under the auspices of the San Francisco Performing Arts Library and Museum. Its members are dancers, teachers, critics, writers, and arts administrators who serve for three years.
