The 14th Annual Isadora Duncan Dance Awards Committee Announces the Winners for the 1998-99 Season
San Francisco (April 24, 2000)----The Isadora Duncan Dance Awards Committee announced the "Izzie" awards winners for the 1998-1999 performance season. Awards were offered in ten categories to Bay Area dancers,
choreographers, their collaborators and composers, as well as to others who contribute to the advancement of the dance community. This is the 14th year that the Committee has recognized the excellence and diversity of Bay Area Dance.
The "Izzie" awards ceremony took place Monday, April 24, 2000, at the San Francisco Performing Arts Library and Museum (PALM), located at 401 Van Ness Ave, the War Memorial Building.
The event, co-hosted by PALM and funded in part by the Zellerbach Family Fund, started at 6 pm with a reception and exhibition of "Dance in California: A Historical Retrospective." The awards ceremony began at 7:30 pm in the Green Room, second floor. The event was free to the community.
The Isadora Duncan Dance Awards Committee seeks to honor and enhance the visibility of local dance artists, primarily through the acknowledgement of outstanding achievements within a twelve month period of performances (September
1, 1998 through August 31, 1999).
It strives to celebrate the unique richness, diversity, and excellence of Bay Area dance and was formed as part of Dance Bay Area in 1984 with the first awards given in 1985. Since 1994, the Isadora Duncan Dance Awards Committee has functioned as a voluntary group under the auspices of the San Francisco Performing Arts Library and Museum. Its members are dancers, teachers, critics, writers, and arts administrators who serve for three years.
